Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly

There is a lot to be Thankful for at RSI. During the month of November, Preschool has been focusing on the socio-emotional trait of gratitude. Throughout the day, they reflect on the things that they are grateful for. The trait is reviewed in each language class and is reemphasized during recess and extended care. Students have been sharing all the things that they are grateful for, like their friends, family, pets, food, and school!

This week students reflected on what they are grateful for in their language classes and celebrated Thanksgiving in their English classes today. Throughout the campus and in their online classes, students shared the thing they are thankful for, even in trying times. Elementary students learned about the history and significance of this American holiday, and preschool students celebrated the holiday with Thanksgiving feasts and fun crafts. There were a lot of little turkeys running around campus today, and there was a surprise guest – Big Turkey – who came into classes to do the turkey dance with kids. During our Elementary Zoom assembly, Big Turkey came out and played a virtual game with the students. We are so grateful for our wonderful RSI community or families, students, and staff.

Here are a few things our students and staff are thankful for this year:

Ray (C10) “I am grateful. There are too many things that I am grateful for.”

Nicara (C10) “I am grateful for my family because they are always there for me.”

Cara (C11) I am thankful for my school, my friends, and teachers, because at school that’s where I learn and have fun. I am thankful for teachers because they help me learn, and friends because they learn and have fun with me”

Ms. Flournoy “I am most grateful for my husband and our dog, Bailey. I’m also thankful for my awesome coworkers that I enjoy working with every day. Even with the challenges of 2020, I am thankful for a year of growth. I’m so grateful for a life full of love and joy!”

Ms. Davis “I am grateful for my family and my health this year.”

Ms. Kelly “I am grateful that I get to wake up every day with a pillow under my head. I am very thankful to be surrounded by such a loving family, friends, and coworkers. And I am especially thankful for all of our RSI students and families.”
