Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly

RSI students enjoyed a short week of classes and activities before Thanksgiving Break. The week was filled with celebration and gratitude all throughout the campus. Students took time to reflect on what they were grateful for like family, friends, homes, and food. When asked why, students looked deeper to understand what about these things made them special and grateful. Students said they are grateful for their families because their families love and support them, provide food for them, and make sure they always have what they need. In class, students did speaking and writing prompts describing the Thanksgiving Holiday celebration, traditions, and customs. In other classes, students did thanksgiving activities and crafts where they played games and reviewed colors and numbers in Spanish and Chinese Language classes. In English classes, many grade levels celebrated with a big Thanksgiving feast. Teachers shared stories of the first Thanksgiving, and students shared ways they celebrate Thanksgiving in their families. Everyone indulged in the goodness of the holiday with thankful hearts!

RSI K-12 students also ended the short week with a special November assembly. They celebrated birthdays, recognized November Leaders of the Month, and cheered on K-12 Employees of the Month. Students and staff shared a special moment where they surprised Ms. Flournoy with cards, flowers, and notes as she heads out for maternity leave.
