Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly
Renascence School International, Orange County is introducing a new, unique, approach to high school that leverages RSI’s strengths of redefining education. Although the high school program is not traditional, it is exciting!
RSI’s fresh high school concept prepares students for a future of learning by helping them earn two years of college credit during their 4 years of high school. The vision for high school is built on the slow transition of students from high school to community college allowing them to complete high school and IGETC requirements within 4 years. With the help and guidance of a high school and college counselor, students will strategically move through classes to help them navigate courses, dive deeper into subjects, and discover what major or career path is right for them.
While students will take high-level, full language immersion classes through RSIOC, they will transition into taking subject matter classes at a local community college. RSIOC will also offer special elective classes which will give them the tools to build skills they need for the future. These classes could be additional language arts, entrepreneurial, personal finance, and STEAM-related classes. With the help of their guidance counselor, high school students will be able to explore interesting subjects beyond the typical curriculum. Students will have the freedom to explore their creativity and innovation through additional electives, and they will also get the chance to participate in cross-cultural internships across the country or across the globe!
Although this is not the traditional route, there are many benefits to RSI’s High School Program. With escalating competition for admissions to major universities, this is one-way students can get ahead of their peers. By saving two-years of time, parents and students will also save money on college tuition! Completing the IGETC (UC general requirements) at local community colleges and receiving an AA by 12th grade is another advantage of RSI’s High School program that will help students transfer to universities with ease. Additionally, students will test for the Global Seal of Biliteracy which earns them a seal of functional fluency accepted by the US Military. By the end of high school, students will earn the second seal to help them get access to more fields
