Outside the Box – Ashley Bleeker

RSI Middle School and High School students spent several weeks preparing for a speech and debate competition, hosted by the Asian American Advocacy Alliance. Students met with a speech and debate mentor who assisted via zoom. In the weeks leading up to the competition, participants would practice in their classrooms and had dress rehearsals leading up to the event. They invested time into the memorization of the speech so that their execution was polished.
At RSI, we aim to prepare our students for public speaking from a young age. This sets them up for success long term as they have laid a foundation for confidence in an area that can commonly come with nervousness. Instead, our students are well prepared, leading to a strong overall performance when in front of a group of people. This confidence comes through preparation, practice, and repetition, which enables our students to strengthen the skill of public speaking over time. By beginning this practice when students are in Preschool and Kindergarten, they become increasingly assured in their ability to succeed.
We are proud of their effort in preparing as well as their success at the event. A student from the C11 class was given the Outstanding Presentation award – Congratulations!
