Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly
The advantage of Renascence School International’s trilingual immersion program is that students enter full language immersion classes in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and English. RSIOC celebrates multilingualism which expands future opportunities for our students. At Renascence School International, our goal is for students to be business proficient in Mandarin and Spanish by the time they graduate from high school. Last Spring, middle school students took the Stamp 4S language proficiency assessment, and we proudly awarded RSI students who earned the functional fluency award in Spanish. This year, some freshmen earned the functional fluency level of the Global Seal of Biliteracy in Chinese and English. We are very proud of our students who have already achieved earning two global seals in functional fluency in Spanish and English and Chinese and English.
In order to earn the seal, students have to reach a certain proficiency level in all 4 modes of language (reading, listening, speaking, writing).
This is demonstrated by taking the STAMPS language proficiency assessments. This is the first level our students can achieve, from here, students can work towards working fluency and professional fluency.
The Global Seals of Biliteracy is widely recognized and here are a few practical ways the seal is being used:
1) Add the certification to an email signature e.g. Global Seal Certified: Functional Fluency – Mandarin Chinese
2) Include the unique serial number on the certificate/seal on resume and LinkedIn profile to distinguish exceptional language abilities
3) Earn competency-based credit or AP with college admissions officers
4) Earn scholarships for colleges or universities
5) Include as skill or credential on job applications
6) Gain favorability during job interviews
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an international credential that conveys proficiency of language skills in two or more languages. RSI students are on the way to earning many more Global Seals of Biliteracy in the years to come. Congratulations on a job well done!
