Outside the Box – Ashley Bleeker

RSI families had a wonderful time at our recent Open House events! Parents, students, and teachers connected with one another, furthering the RSI community. One of the highlights of the evening was the portfolios of each students’ work on display for their parents. From the youngest preschool students to our High School students, their work showed the mastery of skills learned at each academic level.

Chinese portfolios included their homework showing their mastery of the language through handwritten examples. English teachers gathered student work including essays and major projects from throughout the school year. Students showed their parents examples of what they had been learning in their Spanish classes. Preschool portfolios included examples of art projects their students have completed, showing their developmental milestones and motor skills. High School and Middle School students also displayed their science fair projects that they have completed through the application of the scientific method.

These events are incredibly helpful for the RSI community to build connections and perspective throughout the educational journey. Students proudly showed off their completed work to their parents, leading to encouragement. Teachers got to know parents as they welcomed all into thoughtfully decorated classrooms. Parents gained a depth of perspective into their students’ educational experience in their daily life. And finally, families built deeper connections with one another leading a greater sense of comradery.
