Outside the Box – Ashley Bleeker

We are pleased to recognize RSI students who have earned two Global Seal of Biliteracy in Functional Fluency! This is an incredible milestone in their academic journey and we are proud to celebrate them. This accomplishment is due to years spent investing into their education through hard work and study.

The Global Seal is a certification that students receive at a specific level of fluency in two languages – in RSI’s case, English/Spanish and English/Mandarin Chinese. In order to receive a certificate for a Global Seal, students take rigorous language proficiency tests for the target language as well as English that demonstrate their ability to speak and understand the language, and to read and write in the languages. It sets students apart as they are not only trilingual, they are triliterate.

At RSI, students are trained utilizing Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and English through trilingual immersion. By the end of Middle School, students are on track to earn the Global Seal of Biliteracy in Functional Fluency. Our students are also on track to earn their Working Fluency Seal by the end of High School. Many of our students earn the seals ahead of schedule and some of them will be ready to earn the Professional seal after High School. We believe these seals are more than recognition for achievement; they give students advantages in college admissions, scholarships and pay differentials globally.

By taking the tests necessary to earn these seals, students prove that they not only understand but have mastery of world languages. They provide increased potential to open new opportunities for students to engage between various cultures with competence and confidence. At RSI, this is an advantage that we are proud to support our students with.
