Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly
RSI celebrated Día del Niño as a part of a school-wide cultural celebration. Día del Niño, Children’s Day, is a recognized holiday around the world that empowers children by celebrating their curiosity as well as their creativity. In RSI Spanish classes, teachers set up different activities for their students that included crafts and games. One class celebrated with a luau where students played games, won prizes, took fun pictures, and ended with a nice lunch of pineapple chicken with rice. Other classes celebrated with carnival-style games that had students bursting with laugher. Students nourished their bodies with healthy fruit kabobs and enjoyed playing with balloon animals and balloon art!
Through the festivities, students took time to acknowledge and value their home languages and different or shared cultures. Teachers and students enjoy celebrating cultures and partaking in traditions from all around the globe which helps to expand their global understanding and encourages curiosity in multiculturalism and other world languages.
It was so much fun to celebrate Día del Niño on campus with our kids and watching them leave the celebration with small prizes and big smiles.
Feliz Día del Niño!
