Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly
RSI students ended the month with a week of fun festivities! Preschool students and staff dressed up every day and participated in a Halloween-themed spirit week. It was fun seeing our little pumpkins, ghouls and witches come out to play. The week ended with Costume Day, Trunk-or-Treat, and a K-12 schoolwide assembly on Friday.
Trunk-or-Treat was such a fun way to end the week. Students dressed up in festive costumes and shared lots of smiles as they paraded around the blacktop collecting goodies from cars and parent volunteers. RSI parents went all out decorating the trunks of their cars in a variety of themes from Moana to Snow White, and Halloween Harvest with a spooky smokey cauldron. Students went out one class at a time to collect treats and take pictures. There were so many great costumes from princesses to mummies, “guitar-achas” to airplanes, and everything in between. Elementary and Middle School students gathered together after the activity for a school-wide assembly where they celebrated birthdays and leaders of the month. The assembly ended with a costume contest where students from various grade levels were represented. It was so awesome seeing everyone get into the spirit and be creative! After Trunk-or-Treating, students continued the fun with in-class parties and potlucks. Middle school and high school students ended the day showing off their artistic carving skills with a pumpkin carving party.
Students were not the only ones having fun on Costume Day. RSI staff showed up in costume to join the kids in a fun day of festivities. Staff voted for each other in a costume contest where there were two categories Best Costume and Best Group Costume. It was a close race between Disney Villans, the Wizard of Oz, Clowns, and Pac-Man, but the winner for the best group went to the Wizard of Oz. So many staff costumes were playful and pretty, but the winner for the best costume went to Sra. Arciniega dressed up as Ursula.
Thank you to RSI PTO Boosters for coordinating Trunk-or-Treat and all the RSI families who donated items, decorated their cars, and took photos.
