RSI celebrates Dia de los Muertos!

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Dia de los Muertos—the Day of the Dead, is a lively Mexican holiday that is celebrated all over Latin America. Students at the Renascence School International celebrated on November 1st with special activities in Spanish class. On Dia de los Muertos, the dead become part of the community, having awakened from their eternal sleep to join their loved ones in celebration. The students learned that this is not a time to fear, but a time of remembrance for the generations before us and for those who are no longer with us.
Some of the students at RSI had their faces painted in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos! There are four things that the Latin culture uses to remember their loved ones: Foto (photo), Vela (candle), Flor (flower) and Altar (altar). Some teachers had an ofrenda memorial set up in their classrooms and students enjoyed a variety of crafts based around this special holiday!
