RSI Students Learn Robotics and Coding

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Robotics and coding, technology and computers, these are important subjects and this summer RSI students were honing skills with an introduction to robotics! Summer campers made a project using Scratch: an MIT-created, block based programming language. The kids learned all about circuits. Students learned how to make a repeating dance animation for a character using loops and sounds. The campers assembled their own robot (an R2D2) with partners, using a power source, servo, motor and more. They coded Pong with a user-controlled paddle and a bouncing ball. Advanced students created a score variable that keeps track of how players do in the game. At RSI we want to prepare students for the future but also make sure that they have fun throughout that process! Read More

RSI Welcomes International Students to Summer Camp

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

This summer RSI students have enjoyed spending time with international student visitors from China! The international students have been mixing and mingling with RSI campers. They have been fully immersed in our English program and have developed conversational skills throughout the day by gardening, writing, and playing with new friends.
During their time here, students and staff all formed special bonds with these students and made many fun memories together. RSI creates a unique environment where international students can learn English by playing and interacting with RSI students, while RSI students also get a chance to practice their Chinese language skills. These special friends will be missed! RSI wishes them the best on their journey and can’t wait to see them again soon! Read More

RSI Summer Camp – zooming through week 3!

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

The Renascence School International has the best summer camp around! Balancing the day to make sure that kids have plenty of time outside and incorporating hands-on fun into the academics to keep the fun level high! RSI’s foreign language learning program is outstanding and the curriculum at RSI is custom made to instill creativity and global leadership. All of this is part of the International Space Explorers Summer Camp!

Last week, students picked and tasted a watermelon that was grown in the school’s garden. What a treat!  Academic Workshop campers went on a field trip to the local public library.  Some of the students enjoyed using their own library cards and learning how to search for books and find them on the shelves. All the students enjoyed their time at the library and hopefully this trip will continue to nurture their love for reading! Read More
