Let’s get together! RSI Elementary Leadership Assembly – September

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

RSI’s first Elementary Leadership Assembly was a success! Students had such a fun time hearing from student council and learning about new opportunities at the school. Staff and students set aside some time to celebrate many current and summer birthdays. Also, some of the RSI club members took the opportunity to introduce their clubs to the school to their friends.  RSI is looking forward to one assembly each month to celebrate each other and the seven habits in our lives! RSI kids celebrating the Chinese Moon Festival

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Students at the Renascence School International celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival in class last Friday. During Chinese class, teachers shared the Moon Festival story with their students. Some classes colored the picture of moon cakes and “cheng-e” (the main character in the story of moon festival). Other classes created and decorated their own Chinese lanterns. In Chinese culture, the Lantern is a symbol for family reunion and prayer for good fortune. Trying different flavored moon cookies is always a fun treat for the students on this special holiday! RSI Students Learn Robotics and Coding

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Robotics and coding, technology and computers, these are important subjects and this summer RSI students were honing skills with an introduction to robotics! Summer campers made a project using Scratch: an MIT-created, block based programming language. The kids learned all about circuits. Students learned how to make a repeating dance animation for a character using loops and sounds. The campers assembled their own robot (an R2D2) with partners, using a power source, servo, motor and more. They coded Pong with a user-controlled paddle and a bouncing ball. Advanced students created a score variable that keeps track of how players do in the game. At RSI we want to prepare students for the future but also make sure that they have fun throughout that process! Read More
