Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly

RSI students had a day full of activities on Friday when they celebrated Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day!

Students welcomed the Year of the Ox on this Lunar New Year (also referred to as Spring Festival and Chinese New Year) in their Chinese Language classes. On-campus, RSI kids celebrated with dumplings, traditional snacks, and East Asian traditions. Students online and on-campus learned about the importance of this holiday and the traditions that accompany it. Teachers did various crafts with the students and shared famous folklore stories that relate to good wishes and fortunes for the new year. Elementary students wrote short stories and practiced writing wishes in Chinese calligraphy. Preschool students learned about the Dragon Dance and paired up to perform their own dances in class! We wish everyone a safe, happy, and prosperous new year!

In English language classes, students continued their day of celebrations with a Valentine’s Day card exchange. They decorated boxes and walked around passing out their valentines to everyone in the class. Students also celebrated online in their classes with Valentine’s Day activities. Students made heartfelt crafts for their families and gave presents to their teachers. It was such a fun day of celebration!

新年快乐 & Happy Valentine’s Day!
