Outside the Box – Nicole Kelly
As we get closer to the holidays, RSIOC is finding new ways to celebrate with our students and brighten up the campus with holiday cheer!
With distanced learning in place, we found new ways to celebrate the holidays while still having fun. RSI preschool teachers are competing in a door decorating contest. The holiday decorations are creative and brighten up the campus. It has been so fun to see the creativity come from our staff as they compete for the most festive door and classroom. Some transformed their doors to look like gingerbread houses, and other teachers created small fireplaces next to reading nooks to make a warm and cozy atmosphere in their classroom. You can feel the holiday spirit around the campus!
RSI is also hosting daily, socially distanced, holiday parties for elementary and middle school students and teachers. We are excited to have elementary and middle school students back on campus to celebrate the holidays with each other and their teachers reconnect since they have been distanced for a few months. Each day for the next two weeks, one class will come together each day at a designated time to do holiday crafts and activities together. Students are making gingerbread houses, decorating ornaments, and competing in sack races. Covid procedures and policies will be implemented for these events to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
A school-wide Global Holiday Ornament Contest is being sponsored by the RSI PTO. Students decorated their ornament in the theme of any country, culture, or tradition with any materials they choose. Students did a wonderful job getting creative with their ornaments and showcasing various aspects of different cultures in or around their ornaments. A panel of RSI teachers/staff will anonymously choose 1 winner per class, plus 3 overall winners for the entire school. Each class winner will receive a $15 gift card. Each overall school winner will receive a $40 gift card. All ornaments will help decorate RSI’s holiday tree during December, and photos will be displayed at the December 16 school assembly.
Although there is only one week left before we leave for winter break, there is still so much to celebrate together!
